Markets in US

The United States is a relatively young market with dramatic wind energy potential. The wind resource is excellent, particularly in areas west of the Mississippi River. The political support is apparent at all levels – federal, state and local governments are engaged in renewable energy initiatives. The Obama administration has made renewable energy a central issue, supported by favorable legislation that includes enhanced financial/tax incentives. Currently, 30 states have Renewable Portfolio Standards (mandates to increase clean energy production) and are facilitating economic development and job growth in rural communities with their commitments.

The primary challenge to wind energy growth in the US is the lack of transmission capacity. The grid is both inefficient and underdeveloped. The government is committed to improving the grid but it will take time. In the meantime, there is enough grid capacity to make wind farm development compelling for developers and investors.

The credit markets have dramatically impacted wind farm projects in the US. The more recent market behavior suggests that the worst may be over. While financing projects can be challenging, there are investors willing to finance well developed projects.

Havgul clean energy AS has partnered up with the well reputed and experienced Danish company Alpha Wind Energy in order to develop the US market. For more information, please see www.alphawind.dk
